    It depends on the school district, so you should ask your HR Office or read your contract. However, a district in my area refused to allow a teacher to break her contract and the new school that hired her, refused to allow her to start until she fulfilled her previous obligation to the original school.

    Most teacher contracts are designed that you have until so many days until the beginning of the school year to break a contract before you're actually bound by said contract. In Texas, I think that if you sign a contract and want to break it, you have to notify the district in righting somewhere between 81 and 90 days before the beginning of school, so they have time to find a replacement. If there are fewer than 90 days until the beginning of the school, you are bound by the contract but you can submit a request that the contract be terminated. However, it is up to the discretion of the board to decide whether or not to release you and until they do, you are not free to sign another contract.

    You do need to check with your district and see what the specific cut off dates will be.

    Read your contract. There should be a section on this. Mine has a 30 day notice and it has to be delivered via certified mail. Most schools would rather have a teacher who want to be there teaching than one who would rather not be there, but no one like to deal with finding a good last minute replacement.

    If your contract doesn't have a clause, I'd ask your union (if you have one) or ask a lawyer to take a quick look at it. It is important if you are unsure and you plan to keep teaching as your profession.

    You need to read your contract, if you still have questions call your union.

    I doubt that they could suspend your certification BUT they could have a weird clause embedded in there. It is unlikely though.

    Districts usually negotiate their own contracts so they will not have the same reactions to a resignation.

    Call your union would be the best thing to do in doubt.

    It is a a limited contract with the state that issued the license holding you to very few obligations. The US government has little to no control over state licenses witch is the way our country was designed small federal government and more states rights. Not that you are ever tought that any more.
