    if its your home and you can cancelled it,i dont see were he can.you hired him so you can fire him.i dont think he has a leg to stand on.tell him to give it his best shot and do not contact you from here on out,or you will press harrassment charges on him.

    I wouldn't be surprise if there was at least some type of penalty involved. I don't know if this is just commercial or government work here … either way, the contractor has *possibly* put out cash on product he's not able to deliver to anybody – or maybe he's turned down other jobs based on a signed authorization to do this job. You say you canceled 4 bus. days later – but how many days before his work was supposed to begin? Some contracts require 30 days, others maybe only 24 hours.

    Was there any type of 'fine print' – front or back of that form?
    There's a few to many unknowns for me to give you a solid answer.

    Yes, it could be a binding contract, depending on what it says. Any written document you sign can be legally interpreted to be a contract, and most are. This is why you ALWAYS need to read the fine print an be sure you know what you are signing.

    Consult a business lawyer in your community, or seek help from your local legal aid society if you cannot afford one. It is very possible that the handyman does have a legitimate case against you if he/she turned down other paying work to honor their scheduling commitment to you, and now has lost income because of your cancellation. Even for a small contract they can take you to small claims court, which will cost you a lot of time and energy to defend, so best to be open-minded and fair about reaching some kind of settlement with the handyman quickly.

    Its not a contract but it is an agreement for authorization. Can it be binding? yes, but only really works against you if the contractor started services or paid for services/materials based on the agreement for authorization (permits, labor, etc…). There may be a penalty. Authorization invoices should always be tied into an agreement (contract) since invoices can always change and may not capture all terms and conditions.

    It depends on what state you live in. The laws are different. In my state you have 3 business days from the time of the contract to cancel. Yes a work order/authorization is a binding contract,if you signed it. I wish you the best of luck. Oh yes, write him a certified letter stating that you do not need his services and give the reason why. Bye

    Do you have a copy of the invoice. There should be written terms that state this is a binding contract (if this is not written on the invoice, then it is all hear say in a court of law- and he is not a smart business person, for not having this on his invoice). If he thinks he can sue you – let him try, he is not to smart and will pay more in lawyer fee in the long run). The license number is just for tax/insurance purposes (basically this means he has a business). Time is money – so him making calls and threatening you is a waste of money in my eye! He should just drop it, realize the mistake he made by not having the terms written correctly in the first place on the invoice and he should go back to his office and re-write his invoices with new terms with cancellation fees and binding contract information to protect his time that he spend probably giving you an estimate.
